It’s just the second time in franchise history two players topped 30 homers but no one else had more than 15. In 1934, Earl Averill and Hal Trosky topped 30 while Odell Hale finished third with only 14.
There have been two others times two players hit 30 homers while no one else hit 20:
Over the past two games, Josh Naylor and Jose Ramirez each hit their 20th home run of the season.
It’s the first time anyone for Cleveland reached 20 home runs before the All-Star Game since 2018 and the seventh time in franchise history multiple players reached 20 homers before the break:
Josh Naylor went 0-3 with three RBI against the Mariners. He’s the first player to generate three RBI without a hit since the Dodgers’ James Loney in 2009.
The only other Cleveland hitter with a three-RBI game without a hit was Bob Chance during his rookie year in 1964.
Josh Naylor belted two home runs and drove in six against the Pirates on Tuesday.
It was his second career multi-homer game with at least six RBI, making him the 12th player in franchise history to accomplish the feat at least twice.
Josh Naylor and Bo Naylor each homered off Rangers pitcher Jon Gray in the third inning last night. A few fun notes on the accomplishment:
13th pair of brothers to homer in the same game as teammates
First pair of brothers to homer in same game for Cleveland
5th pair of brothers to homer in the same inning as teammates
The most recent occurrences were B.J. and Justin Upton in 2013 and 2014 for the Braves. The Uptons homered in the same game six times and the same inning twice.
Cleveland has been involved in a same-game homer for brothers as opponents. In June 1972, Graig Nettles homered for Cleveland, while Jim Nettles homered for the Twins. And in July 1933, Wes Ferrell homered for Cleveland, while Rick Ferrell homered for the Red Sox (off of Wes) in the top and bottom half of the fourth inning.
Josh Naylor closed out the first half with 64 RBI, tied for 27th most in franchise history before the break. Obviously most of the players ahead of him on that list made the All-Star team.
Naylor is the 10th player in franchise history with at least 64 RBI to not be selected to the game. The list:
Cleveland won 2-0 against the Mariners on Saturday night off solo home runs by Andres Gimenez and Josh Naylor.
It’s the first time the team has won a game with its only scoring coming on two or more solo home runs since a Jake Bauers and Leonys Martin homered off Gerrit Cole in 2019 for a 2-1 victory over the Astros.
