  • Drafted by Cleveland (4th overall) in 1984 as a shortstop out of BYU.
  • Converted to 3B in minor leagues and did not play outfield for the first time until reaching Cleveland in 1986.
  • Primarily played RF with Tribe, also appearing at SS, 3B, LF and CF.
  • Traded to White Sox (with minor leaguer Lindsay Foster) in 1990 offseason for pitchers Shawn Hillegas and Eric King.
  • Known for his power and high strikeout numbers.
  • Set the franchise single-season strikeout record in 1987 with 166 (broken by Jim Thome in 1999).
  • When his Cleveland career ended in 1990, he was tied for 5th in franchise history with 642 strikeouts, despite playing at least 250 fewer games than any other non-pitcher in the top 15.
  • Ended his career as the franchise leader in walk-off home runs with five (three in 1987, two in 1988). His record was broken by Albert Belle in 1996.
  • On the cover of Sports Illustrated’s infamous baseball preview in 1987 (along with Joe Carter) in which the publication picked Cleveland to win the World Series (they would lose 101 games).
