DeLauter’s 5 HR Through 7 Games

In the home opener, did it again, blasting his fifth homer in his just seventh game.

He’s the fourth player in history with at least five homers through seven career regular season games, joining:

  • Trevor Story, 7
  • Rece Hinds, 5
  • Mark Quinn, 5

also had five home runs through the first seven games in which he had a plate appearance with the 2007 Yankees. However, in his third career game he was a defensive replacement and did not come to the plate, so technically it took him eight games to reach five home runs.

The previous franchise record was four, by in 1988.

and were the only others with three.

DeLauter is also just the sixth player franchise history with five homers through the team’s first eight games, joining:

Although he made his MLB debut in the postseason last year, had never appeared in a regular season contest until Opening Day in Seattle.

So his two homer game against the Mariners is the sixth in MLB history in a player’s first regular season appearance:

  • 1999 Mark Quinn, Royals
  • 1964 Bert Campaneris, Athletics

Story is the only other to do so on Opening Day. Nieman later played for Cleveland, hitting just two homers in 41 games in 1961 and 1962.

DeLauter also become just the fourth player in franchise history with two homers on Opening Day, joining this list:

DeLauter is also the 17th youngest player in MLB history with two homers on Opening Day (24 years, 170 days).

Tyler Soderstrom of the A’s (23 years, 123 days) was the last to do so at a younger age, last year. The youngest is Bryce Harper (20 years, 167 days).
