On Tuesday night, Twins reliever Yoendrys Gomez entered the game with two outs in the ninth and struck out Gabriel Arias on three pitches to record the save.
It’s just the fourth known instance of a pitcher record a three-pitch save with a strikeout against Cleveland (pitch-by-pitch data is mostly complete back through the 1988 season).
Here are the other instances:
- 1995 MIN – Dave Stevens vs Herbert Perry
- 1993 TOR – Duane Ward vs Reggie Jefferson
- 1993 SEA – Norm Charlton vs Carlos Martinez
There are only two known instances of a Cleveland pitcher recording this type of save:
- 2019 Adam Cimber vs LAA (Albert Pujols)
- 1997 Jose Mesa vs SEA (Brent Gates)
