DeLauter’s 5 HR Through 7 Games

In the home opener, did it again, blasting his fifth homer in his just seventh game.

He’s the fourth player in history with at least five homers through seven career regular season games, joining:

  • Trevor Story, 7
  • Rece Hinds, 5
  • Mark Quinn, 5

also had five home runs through the first seven games in which he had a plate appearance with the 2007 Yankees. However, in his third career game he was a defensive replacement and did not come to the plate, so technically it took him eight games to reach five home runs.

The previous franchise record was four, by in 1988.

DeLauter is also just the sixth player franchise history with five homers through the team’s first eight games, joining:

Jersey Number Droughts

In his major league debut, wore No. 77, becoming the second player in team history to don the jersey.

first wore it during his lone season in Cleveland in 1992.

The 33 year gap between the number making an appearance on the playing field is the fifth longest gap in team history and the longest by a jersey number that debuted post-1930.

I’m not sure why they used a few high numbers in 1929 and 1930, but that was out of the norm for that era which led to the extreme gap.
