Manzardo’s Historically Embarrassing Start

Through his first 10 games of the season, is 2-32, a pitiful .063 batting average.

Throughout franchise history, only two others have been worse (with at least 35 plate appearances) through 10 games. Here’s the list:

Tucker was a September call-up who never played against in the big leagues. Leon was a backup catcher who had minimal preparation in that weird 2020 season. O’Neill was also a catcher. And Score, Moore and Mails are pitchers.

Yikes.

David Fry Pitches vs Cubs

Rookie utilityman David Fry pitched the ninth inning against the Cubs, retiring Mike Tauchman, Nico Hoerner and Christopher Morel in order.

He’s the seventh position player in franchise history to pitch and not allow a base runner, joining:

Carnett deserves an asterisk of sorts, as he was a fulltime position player in 1945, but had been a pitcher in the minor leagues up until 1943.

Sandy Leon Pitching

Sandy Leon is the first Cleveland position player to toss two scoreless innings since Willie Smith in 1968. But that deserves as asterisk since Smith started his MLB career as a pitcher.

Prior to Smith, it was Rocky Colavito in 1958 vs Detroit.
