The Nationals helped Tanner Bibee tie a franchise record on Monday night, belting five home runs off Cleveland’s starter.
Bibee joins Hunter Gaddis (2022 vs CHW), Luis Tiant (1969 at BOS) and Gary Bell (1962 vs MIN) as the only players in franchise history to allow five home runs in a single game.
Bibee is the first player in franchise history to allow five home runs within the first three innings of the game.
It was also the second time Bibee has allowed four homers in a game.
Bibee is one of just 11 pitchers in franchise history with multiple 4-HR outings, joining:
- Josh Tomlin
- Carl Pavano
- Terry Mulholland
- Bartolo Colon
- Dave Burba (three times)
- Jim Brower
- Ken Schrom
- Gary Bell (three times)
- Herb Score
- Cal McLish
Acquired from Dodgers with Francisco Cruceta and Ricardo Rodriguez for Paul Shuey in July 2002. Inclusion in the trade was primarily to offset cost, allowing Cleveland to get better prospects (Rodriguez was the Dodgers’ top-ranked prospect entering the year by Baseball America).
